Push it hard, and it feels like a big sports sedan. cadillac designed the deville to please a variety of drivers by offering three distinctive models. A tire-pressure monitor is now standard, and advanced vehicle navigation is available for all models. . lineupthe 2003 cadillac deville is offered in three distinct flavors: deville, deville dhs, and deville dts. Both depart from cadillac's old ways. They share many features, but as their names imply, one stresses luxury while the other highlights a sportier driving experience. dhs and deville models come with a full bench seat in front and a column shifter. Dts comes with bucket seats and a floor shifter. The standard deville uses cadillac's traditional digital instrumentation; dhs and dts get the analog (dial) instruments often preferred by enthusiast drivers. Yet both offer a supple fit and feel. The dts is distinguished by a wreath and crest in the grille, while the dhs and deville use a traditional hood ornament. . walkaroundthe cadillac deville is a handsome, head-turning design, a combination of european and american, of contemporary and traditional. It still looks stylish and contemporary, even though it was last redesigned for the 2000 model year. Its styling distinguishes it from other cars, including other cadillacs. It still draws approving looks and not everyone knows what it is. deville was the first cadillac to be solely designed using autostudio, a computer-aided design tool. Although it looks large and rich, the current deville is shorter than the 1999 model it replaced. Large front lighting clusters giving the deville a bold appearance. A grinning eggcrate grille extends between the headlights. Updated cadillac wreath-and-crest emblems extend the classic-but-contemporary theme. Large doors, massive body panels and expansive glass are broken only by a highlight trim piece along the lower body section. But we feel cadillac has taken a step backward by eliminating the height adjustment for the front-seat shoulder harnesses; the height adjustment allowed shorter drivers to wear the belts more comfortably. We wonder how many owners who have this feature are aware of its existence, however. another thing we didn't like is the placement of the high-beam indicator next to the digital trip odometer. Both are nearly the same blue color, making the indicator difficult to see. So it's easy to leave the high beams on by mistake, blinding other drivers. Maybe that's part of the reason we see so many cadillacs running around with their brights on. cadillac's advanced vehicle navigation 1995) incorporates voice-recognition technology, so the driver can keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Bumps are felt, but suppressed to comfortable levels. Go around a fast, sweeping turn and potholes won't upset the car's balance, a benefit of the deville's highly rigid chassis. We feel this makes the deville safer and more comfortable to drive in tight quarters, important in big cities when surrounded by big trucks and aggressive cab drivers. the deville is smooth and stable at high speeds. The deville benefits from technology and higher-quality manufacturing. Aluminum suspension components reduce unsprung weight (the weight that moves with each wheel as it reacts to irregularities in the road), so the springs don't have to be as stiff to keep the wheels in firm contact with the pavement. This translates into more comfort on the highway without having to sacrifice handling. the dts model is particularly agile and feels rock solid on the open road. The dts gets the latest version of cadillac's continuously variable road-sensing suspension (cvrss 2. 0), which features transient roll control, lateral support and enhanced stability. This electronically controlled suspension adjusts shock-absorber damping every few milliseconds, adapting to the road surface and the driver's demands. All-new full-size luxury sedan is roomy and composed. introductioncadillac is introducing a new full-size sedan for 2013. The 2013 cadillac xts fills a hole left in the cadillac lineup since production of the sts and dts ended a couple of years ago. In their place is the 2013 cadillac xts, a roomy cruiser that shows off the latest technology, upgraded interior materials and a refined cadillac design. exterior styling on the cadillac xts is bold, but softer than on other models we've seen from the brand in the past few years. Also notable is the use of premium interior materials, such as leather upholstery as standard equipment, as well as a fully configurable electronic tft (thin-film transistor) instrument cluster in front of the driver. the cadillac xts is the first model to use cue, an acronym for cadillac user experience. The system features a large touchscreen and uses proximity sensors, haptic feedback and voice recognition to control phone, audio and navigation functions. Cue comes standard on all xts models, but navigation costs extra on the two lower trim levels. To sweeten the deal, cadillac is including an ipad with all new xts purchases, pre-loaded with an app that helps owners learn how to use the cue system. underneath the new wrappings are decidedly familiar components. Namely, general motors' premium epsilon platform, originally developed by opel and used in several variations on gm vehicles worldwide, including the current buick lacrosse. The 2013 cadillac xts is powered by gm's much-used 3. 6-liter, naturally aspirated v6 engine found on other cadillac and chevrolet models. All models above the base trim have a dual exhaust integrated into the rear fascia for an even cleaner look. but one could never dismiss the xts as demure. It still sports plenty of bling, like polished chrome trim around windows, doors and deck lid that glisten in the sun. Not to mention the expansive chromed grille. Paired with its cadillac badge, the face of the xts is unmistakable as a cadillac in a rearview mirror. interiorlike other cadillac interiors, materials on the xts are high-quality and luxurious. Front seats make driver and passenger feel like each is in her own compartment, flanked by cubbies and an armrest at one hand, and a center console with high sides on the other. leather seating surfaces are soft and supple, although we found the seats somewhat uncomfortable for those smaller in stature. A long seat cushion prevents the knees from fully bending on anyone shorter than 5-feet, 5 inches, and the wide seatbacks are best suited to football players or lumberjacks. Those who are tall or who require plenty of space will have no problem fitting in a cadillac xts. on base and luxury models, an analog instrument cluster with electronic driver information center sits in front of the driver. On premium and platinum trims, a re-configurable tft (thin-film transistor) display comes standard. It is both novel and useful, but those who prefer a good old-fashioned needle are relegated to the lower trims. at the heart of the xts cabin is the cue system with its 8-inch touchscreen. While past cadillac models were fraught with an overwhelming number of buttons on the center stack, cue drastically cuts down the number of controls to just a handful. Voice recognition systems can be painfully inaccurate (just ask anyone with the latest iphone), but cue's is no short of impressive. One of these is that the xts uses physical buttons for both fan speed and temperature on the center stack for the climate control system. Another thing that annoyed us was the barrage of fingerprints that appeared on the screen after just a few minutes of use. To make matters worse, we caught a lot of glare due to the screen's glossy finish and its angle, which reflected the sunlight coming in from the translucent sunroof cover. When combined with the fingerprints, we found the touchscreen difficult to read. The xts does come with a microfiber cleaning cloth, but it's not an elegant solution. Rear seats have up to 40 inches of legroom, as long as the driver and front passenger don't mind their seats being all the way forward. Rear seats also split 60/40, making it possible to carry plenty of luggage and other gear. driving impressionthe chassis of the cadillac xts is incredibly stable and composed, even around twisty canyon corners.
